Custom site-wide desktop environment

  1. on TK immediately setup static network IP
  2. setup root password
  3. for user support do change:
    • home directory to /local/support, so that it does not overlap with NFS shares (will have to edit /etc/passwd[-], /local/support/.???) ---- will not be used soon since default NFS shares will be under /group
    • change uid to 900 (starting from 1000 there go the LDAP accounts)
    • relogin
  4. using synaptic remove scrollkeeper
  5. install and configure VmWare Tools.
  6. install FreeNX
  7. (optional) configure proxy (use routing with masqurading via server)
  8. upgrade all packages
  9. install ssh (metapackage that includes openssh-server)
  10. install russian language support:
    1. language-pack-gnome-ru
    2. language-pack-ru
    3. language-support-ru
  11. install packages for tsclient:
    1. xtightvncviewer (для VNC)
    2. xnest (for XDMCP)
  12. install packages for Jabber:
    1. psi
    2. psi-translations
    3. qca-tls
    4. libqca2-plugin-ossl
  13. install restricted packages:
    1. flashplugin-nonfree
    2. gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly
  14. setup NTP
    1. install the ntp package
    2. edit /etc/ntp.conf and set the only ntp server to vpn
    3. restart ntp
  15. install and configure openvpn
  16. setup automounted share
  17. configure LDAP, NSS and PAM
  18. install Citrix ICA support for tsclient
  19. GDM logon/logoff scripts
  20. setup printer
  21. restart the host
